If you are traveling thousands of miles and spending a lot of $ to enjoy a dive vacation, I think it is worth the extra $ to get a 3mm and to be really comfortable. Especially if you will use it year after year - even if only for a week at a time. And if you are on a liveaboard doing lots of...
You are probably right about that. My comment is based mainly on what I saw this go around, not what I can recall from 10 years ago, which frankly isn't much. So on a relative basis it may not be in good shape but I consider Little Cayman to be one of the best spots in the Caribbean.
Nice report - I was there for New Year's and that was pretty spot on. Really enjoyed it. I hadn't been there in 10 years and was happy Bloody Bay was in good shape
I'm a complete amateur - I've only taken photos on 2 of my dive trips. I have a Canon Elph with housing - very basic stuff. First trip with camera (Turks & Caicos) I didn't use a strobe, second trip (Fiji) I did (Sea and Sea YS-25 auto). The strobe makes a big difference although as you can...
I attended the Boston Sea Rovers conference this past weekend. Terry Maas gave a couple of presentations, one on shallow water blackout (including a discussion on a safety vest that is in development to reduce the risk of death) and another on highlights from his spearfishing program. Sheri...
I was on the Galapagos Aggressor in August 06. Had a great trip, boat was nice, crew was excellent. I have not had direct experience with Peter Hughes boats but asked the Aggressor crew about them and they said reasonably positive things about them for what that's worth. It means two things...
I was there for New Year's and really enjoyed it. The diving was very good. THe people were nice and helpful. Rooms were nice. A really relaxing, fun place.
Due to weather - did half a dozen dives on the southern side of the island near LCBR. Those sites weren't anything special...
I'm not, but the question made me think of something. I'll always remember a woman named Betty from my first liveaboard years ago who I believe was in her 60s. She's the only person who didn't skip a single dive and she was probably the strongest, most experienced diver among us. First one in...
That about sums it up. My body adjusts to the pace after the first two days but even then I'll skip a night dive or two if I'm fatigued later in the week
I agree splits are more efficient (I tried some on my last trip). But I still prefer paddle fins (Avanti quattros) for the attributes many have cited - control/manueverability. For me the benefits of split fins are marginal. For some they probably work well
It is expensive. For me its worth it though. Its pretty insightful and a good resource. I justify it by the fact that the reviews could steer me to just the right boat that will improve my experience for any given trip. Could I get the same info here - maybe. But I've found that most of the...
I was on the T&C Explorer and it was very good. Heard nice things about the Aggressor as well so I don't think you can go wrong with either.
As has been mentioned, liveaboards are a great way to work on your skills so they are terrific for new divers if the diving is appropriate (ie -...
