Glad to help, Sy. Yes, I think a day trip to Uxmal is worth it if you like Mayan ruins. It is an impressive site. I'm pretty sure there are bus tours from Merida that go to both Uxmal and Kabah in a day.

We stayed at Hacienda Uxmal a few years back when touring the Mayan ruins in the area. It was fine for a night. It is a pretty big place, and they cater to tour groups, so it was either really full or empty. There is also the Lodge at Uxmal, which I think was originally built to house people...

The last time I took a cab in Playa del Carmen was a few months ago, and there was a fare chart next to the taxi stand outside the bus station. Right around here.

I would go with staying in Playa del Carmen over Puerto Morelos, as it would be only one bus/taxi/ground transportation ride. if you are looking to stay closer to the airport, the Cancun Courtyard Marriott is pretty close by, though I think PDC is the better option.

Many dive shops will do it on set days as a single tank dive, such as Thursday and Sunday afternoons. I suppose it is worth seeing just to see it, but it isn't my favorite dive.

The shop is about 2-3 miles from the hotel. A bit of a walk, but easy to get there by bus. Some shops will dive the wreck on certain days (ex: every Friday), but when I last dove with Manta, they left it up to the divers to decide.

The dock was still standing when I dove there in November. I thought the boat we used was fine. It had a canopy, though it wasn't deployed. I suppose anyone could have asked to captain to open it up had they wanted shade. It did not have a ladder, we used a boarding platform. Didn't think it was...

Solo Buceo seemed to have decent gear, as far as rentals go. I think they also had a Japanese speaking dive master, if that would be of use to you.

Bummer to hear that! They did put up a big billboard ad in the Cancun hotel zone about 3-4 weeks ago. That's all I have seen of anything around here.
