    December-Liveaboard

December is normally a good time of year for diving the whole of the Andaman region both North and South. The area's are different to each other, with the south having more soft coral and macro life. It is also less crowded as less boats go there, this is because everyone has heard of Similan...

Diving in Phuket in August- any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi Amanda, Not sure when your non diving friend arrives but we have a 4 day 3 night trip to Phi Phi departing on the 21st to the 24th, this is 15 dives in total and still some space on board if you would like to join. We do not go to Koh Haa as this area is closed as mentioned above but spend...

    Hin Daeng/Muang Liveaboard

Depends on the boat, Most have a 80 to 90% surcharge if you want a single cabin, if you are ok to share then no supplement is needed. Our 3 day trip South we have a 50% single supplement if you want a private cabin.

Phuket dive (and other) recommendations needed

For a quieter area that still has shopping, restaurants and other activities I would say Kata. Nice beach, more relaxed but still things to do. Naiharn is great, but the beach is not as close to the resorts, only a couple within walking distance really and no markets as such. All daytrips and...

    Hin Daeng/Muang Liveaboard

As Steven says Feb next year there are many options to fit different budgets. Our boat runs a 3 day and night trip to the south with 11 dives, this can be combined with the 4 day and night Similan and Richelieu trip too so 7 days diving with 25 dives, great value for money and only 12 guests on...

Phuket dive (and other) recommendations needed

There are many dive operators here in Phuket and as others have said not all own and run their own boats, so you can end up on a boat with a large number of people. This is normally the case when you book with a dive center who do not have their own boats. Scuba Cat diving has its own boats and...

    Hin Daeng/Muang Liveaboard

Hi, Hin Daeng and Muang are great dives as are the Koh Haa islands. Koh Haa is part of the marine park area's and as such closed to diving until the 15th of October, this means that liveaboards cannot run to Hin Daeng either as they use these islands as a stop off area for extra dives and...

    Diving While Unaware of Pregnancy

It happened to me 2 time, I was unaware I was pregnant and working in the dive industry so diving pretty much every day. The first time unfortunately I lost the baby, but there was no link to the fact I had dived without knowing I was pregnant. I stopped as soon as I found out but must have...

Best Western Phuket Ocean Resort for diving in Phuket?

Scuba Cat also offers daytrips with uncrowded boats, not just the liveaboard. Enjoy your diving whilst you are here.

Best Western Phuket Ocean Resort for diving in Phuket?

There is shore dives from some of the beaches close to you, Kata reef is nice, lower vis than daytrips but nice marine life. This can be done on a half day trips arranged by many dive centers. Cattle boats are common here as many of the dive centers do not own their own boats and go with the...

    Zanzibar

Zanzibar is an amazing place I worked there for a year in 2008at one of the biggest dive centers on the island. Yes you do need to be careful, there are people who will want to steal from you the locals are paid very poorly and some decide to take the easy route to money. I personally never...

    Diving in Phuket as beginners

Similans are easier dives than the ones further north, so depends a little. The dive sites that are used are not damaged by the tsunami and the liveaboards go to sites that were not badly affected by the bleaching. Agree with stevenl depends on what moon phase you are here as to the strength...

Have an extra week after liveaboard

If you are after more diving then we have a liveaboard that covers the Hin Daeng, Koh Haa, Phi Phi and Shark point area's. This is 3 days and nights, and completely different to the other sites you will visit. Let me know the dates you are here and we can see if it matched with our scheduled...

    Koh Tachai

Not seen the story yet in the papers or TV, but not surprising. The beach at Tachai was always a difficult place to get to as the reef was surrounding it and very shallow in parts, so even with a small zodiac there were limited places to get access to the sand. The past couple of years there...

Thai diving. Experienced diver needing some inspirational dive sites. Newbie in Thai.

Similan up to Richelieu liveaboards, or the Hin daeng and Koh Haa area are great dives at this time of year. Our liveaboard has spotted Manta's and Whale sharks many many times already this season and they are still about. Take the advanced license if you dont already have it so you are not...

    How much to tip?

When I worked there on average it was between 10 and 20 USD per person, they do 2 tanks dives per day. The tips were shared equally between everyone on the boat, so captain, crew and instructors or guides. Wages are not too high there so it was a big help with the living expenses.

Phuket or Phi Phi - with young children (3.5 & 1.5yo)

With children I would opt for Phuket over Phi Phi, just because there is more to do and more facilities, Phi Phi is a party place so may not work for you. Go to one of the quieter beaches not Patong, Kata is nice as is Naiharn. Many have mentioned kids clubs, but you can also arrange a...

    Day Trip To Richelieu Rock?

It is much easy to do from Khao Lak as the companies who do the daytrips are based there and do not include transfers from Phuket, so you need to go by taxi. This means an early start as once you get there you have to go further north to another pier about 1.5 to 2 hours away to take the boat...
