Recommendations for Shore Based Pacific Diving?

If they can squeeze you in at Dolphin Bay I could recommend it as it sounds like what you are after. Shore diving there is ok and great reef diving is very close by. We had a great stay last April.

Vertical trim with a dry suit?

I go head up quite often. Sometimes the way out of a wreck is a vertical exit. Do it often and it presents no problem. You'll probably lose some air from your neck seal so just compensate with a few puffs into your BCD or kick a bit (but that may stir up silt). I don't think feet up is...

    Luxfer or Catalina Tanks..

Regarding service life of tanks. When I was getting may Catalina tanks tested the owner of the testing station said he had rarely if ever failed a Catalina but was often failing Luxfer tanks.

    Drysuit venting -

Fully open valve here most of the time unless I want to go head up for whatever reason and then I just close it down a bit. I descend in a horizontal or head down position. I think it's pretty simple really. Firstly learn to understand how your body position effects the dumping of air. When...

Anybody else have this drysuit venting problem ?

Yep I agree. When I first started diving dry I was trying to keep minimal air in the suit and still using the BCD as well for buoyancy. I also tried to reduce weight to bare minimum. Now I dive using mainly the suit for buoyancy. This means slightly more air in the suit = warmer and much...

    small suunto gekko issue

There is no off button. It will turn off automatically after a period of time. Don't worry about battery consumption on the gekko, they last for ages (3 years and 150 dives on mine and battery still shows full).

Why Service the regs?? (when new ones are so cheap)

I don't have solid data either but I think it can work in every ones favor if we pay more for a longer lasting product. Servicing can follow the same model... we pay a bit more for a service from a good technician who is servicing a quality product with quality parts, but we have it done less...

    Drysuit Auto-Exhaust Valve

I have found just the opposite. Having a bit more air in the suit makes it much easier to burp a little as needed to retain the same squeeze throughout the dive.

Why Service the regs?? (when new ones are so cheap)

I would far rather pay more for a well crafted product and then use and maintain it for many years. That way the manufacturer can put more care and pride into producing something truly outstanding, and there will be less raw products consumed than making several cheapo regs that people don't...

    Dry Suit Help

Although I mostly avoid head down when diving dry, sometimes I want to poke my head down into a hole for a look, or in a strong surge or current I'll need to swim down strongly to get where I'm going. When I first got my dry suit I spent heaps of time in about 6m of water just going inverted...

    SCUBA Pro G250 vs. S600

You can download the repair guide for the S600 from http://www.frogkick.dk/manuals/scubapro/Manuals/2.%20Stage/S600-S550%20Repair%20Guide.pdf Page 17 deals with adjusting the reg. If your reg is relatively new it is probably the revision A, and the cracking pressure is adjusted with the 3mm...

    SCUBA Pro G250 vs. S600

I wonder how well your reg was tuned. While the g250 may breath a little better I think the S600 breaths very well when tuned properly. Once I learned to tune my reg myself, I was able to tune it to breath MUCH better than my local dive shop and with a much lower cracking pressure than the...

Can Suunto Cobra 2 be used for deco diving?

Really? While I would certainly not advocate going into deco purposefully and repeatedly, I would have thought that the Suunto, being a fairly conservative computer could still keep you safe providing you don't go crazy & you complete the stops. From what I understand, a suunto user (I am one)...

    SP o-ring insertion tool

You guys rock! Thanks for the detailed descriptions and pescador for those exact dimensions. Sounds like I need not be too concerned over having the specialty tools, but it would only take a few minutes to machine one up.

    SP o-ring insertion tool

Does anyone have the exact dimensions of the mk25 o-ring insertion tool? I want to machine one up prior to servicing my reg. Plans for making any other handy reg tools would also be great. Thanks bluey

    Measuring cracking pressure

I am using a U tube manometer. The venturi assist only seems to kick in during quite high flow (very rapid inhalation). In a series of gradually more rapid inhalations, the S600 cracks at about .6" then levels out to about .9 for normal to fairly strong breaths and starts to drop when I...

    Measuring cracking pressure

Thanks Luis I did the test with the venturi assist set to "pre dive", so will try it again in "dive" position and see what the reading is.

    Measuring cracking pressure

I was attempting to measure the cracking effort on my s600 last night and am wondering at what point to take the reading. Should it be measured at the point where the smallest amount of air begins to release, or at the point when there is more of a breathable flow. In the first case my...

Ever been saved by your buddy?

Great replies After completing 60 dives with no incidents I suspect I was in danger of a little bit of over confidence/complacency creeping in. I feel this thread has been a great antidote to that. I do intend to do a rescue coarse as someone suggested and am waiting for an opportunity to...
