    Question about free-flowing reg

Another way to handle a free flowing regulator is to have a hand overthe top of the mouthpiece and cup your hand to gather an air bubble. the free flowing regulator will replenish the air as you breath in from the cup of air. This keeps the regulator further from your face and increases...

My first 2 open water dives =)

Raphyy, I must say congrats as well. Hopefully it is the beginning of a lot more diving for you. If you are talking about the PADI Advanced Open Water cert. the differance is that they teach you more advanced skills (buoyancy, navigation, etc.) they also give you a taste of some of the...

    Buoyancy help

The question that I would have for you is this... How many dives did you have under your belt before taking the drysuit class, or was this part of the OW cert? How comfortable were you with your buoyancy before the drysuit class? The thing about drysuits is that they are far less forgiving that...

    Ear equalization / clearing issue

also, as I have mentioned in another post, try doing this. Take a breath in from your regulator at the surface and from that point forward in the descent, exhale through your nose into your mask. this pretty much guarantees that you are equalizing often and early.

Whe you say equalize often? how much is often? is this possible?

If I can make a suggestion here... when I am diving, and I am talking specifically about the descent here, I like to take my breaths in through my mouth and exhale through my nose and into my mask. I taught this tecnique to a girl that I was dating at the time (just got her OW a week before) and...

Equalize? With head up like a nosebleed or chin down on chest?

there are many differant schools of thought on this. I prefer to streach my neck as I equalize. I find that this makes the equalization easier. lifting your head gives the same effect. the pich and blow technique of equalizing is called Valsalva method. There are others as well like Frenzel...

Whistle noise from ears? I'm blowing too hard?

I have found that allegra (fexophenadrine) the morning before a dive helps clear my head and makes equalizing much easier. BTW Instructors are teaching all of their students to equalize by the pich and blow method. I personaly can not equalize my ears well with that manuver and perfer the jaw...

How do you teach new divers to stay horizontal?

Most of the posts above are on the nose. I have found that most all students are taught with about 1/3 more weight than is needed. if you want them horizontal and they want to become better divers, there is really only one thing that you can do. Practice with them. teach them that they are more...

    Mine LaMotte Report

Well, it is NOT looking like Bill and I (bsigmund and rsigmund) are going to make it out there on Saturday. The instructor we work with needs us to teach class on Saturday. If there is still going to be anybody up for Sunday, we can probably do that. Otherwise, we are down to 6 total. Also, if...

Just certified and looking for dive buddies

If you can not afford a DUI drysuit (great suit but very expensive), you might wantr to try a Bare drysuit. You can usually pick one of them up for under 1000 dollars with everything that you need to dive. As far as the best place to dive around here, Mermet Springs, Rolla, offset mine, and...
