Hello,

I have from the evening of March 19 through the evening of March 23 off from work and am looking for suggestions for a mini dive trip I could take somewhere in Japan (or preferably) Asia.

As I don't know much about Asia diving, what would be some of the most practical spots to get too during this time frame and still get in 2 or 2.5 days of good/great diving? A great beach would be nice as well. I am looking for an easy trip here and would prefer to limit the time it takes to actually get to the final diving spot!

Additionally if anyone else is interested in joining, let me know.

Thanks,

Ryan

For a quick trip from mainland Okinawa or Yonaguni would be great- quick to get to,
great diving and the flight prices just went on sale. On Okinawa hotels range from very cheap to resort- both beach and boat diving is available- you can even just rent tanks and jump in with a buddy. Also on Okinawa night diving is readily available. Yonaguni is all boat drift diving- it would be the end of shark season but you would still have the chance at seeing some sharks if you headed there also, not realy any beaches in Yonaguni but a very nice quiet island. Okinawa ranges from city life to beach resort and many places inbetween.

Send me a pm or check my web page in the signature for more info.

Ryan,

A couple of us who regulalry dive with JUE (:: Japan Underwater Explorers :: GUE Training & DIR Equipment Centre) are planning to head to west Izu on March 20/21 and maybe the 22nd (but not the full four days). I can't promise warm weather and nice beaches, but the diving on west Izu is very good, especially considering it's only a 3 hour drive from Tokyo. For some pictures, check out this thread...

But you will need a drysuit at this time of year! If you haven't done any training we are running a course on March 15th which would sort you out with the PADI specialism.

Diving from Tokyo doesn't need to be a special trip away. There's lots of great diving in Izu stating from Atami (only one hour by Shinkansen from Tokyo station) all the way around the east and west coastlines (up to max 4 hour drive). We go out regularly all year round, so let us know if you want to get wet!

3 hours ? Was 4hrs there and 6hrs back unfortunately due to the notorious traffic.
Great weather and diving though. Saw our first shark in Tago and a turtle, which was quite a surprise :eyebrow:

See Okinawa really is closer to Tokyo than Izu!!

The water is starting to climb in temp here now up to 21.5C yesterday.

I'm always happy to vote for Saipan. Four hours from Narita, great beaches, great diving, food you might be missing, never more than 20 min from a given beach dive or 45 by boat, etc. Just got back today and am planning my next trip all ready.

I've just got back from Geruma in Okinawa and think Okinawa is definitely the best option for a 4 day trip. To be honest, I found the diving in Guam and Saipan to be pretty average. The corals aren't a patch on Okinawa, and neither are the quantity and variety of marine life.

When you add in the Narita factor, and longer flight you'll end up spending a whole day travelling. However if you go via Haneda to Okinawa you can leave work at 6pm and be in your resort by 10pm with no sweat or hassle whatsoever.

Contact Japan Diver on this thread for a great English speaking diveshop in Okinawa ...

You may actually be right, I had far less hassle getting to Naha than I do to Shimoda!

The water temperature was 23C each of the three days I dived around Geruma and Aka islands.

Hope you found somewhere to go. Here is some info for future reference.

It is probably just as easy to get to Guam or Saipan as it is to get to Okinawa and also probably cheaper (unless you. The added bonus is 85 deg F (29 deg C) if it is warmer water that you are looking for.
