Wow I need to give s620 another look. I had s600 with plastic barrel before. I think the builder quality and workmanship is very low for the price they charge. It looks like 620 is really making a come back.

The price for the S620ti is considerable, but you get a reg with a squared barrell that locks the barrell in securely, unlike many economy regs nowadays, with wobbling barrels that require careful counter-torquing. If you are in it for the long haul, it is worth the price, IMHO.

The housing is thick and sturdy. The threads of the adjuster knob and the front cover are coarse. The front cover screws into position with a good amount of torque that makes the locking pin unecessary (I do plug that hole to avoid sand getting into the threads though). Thanks to great workmanship and tolerances, the cover can still be unscrewed by hand, unlike some modern regs that I can hardly open (XTX50 ironically).

The VIVA vane is also my favourite way of adjusting the venturi effect.

Last not least the titanium is just icing on the cake.

(I have no affiliations, sponsorships or other ties to the brands discussed here, I just like simple reg designs).

I love the s620 Ti.
Effortless breathing (paired to a mk 25 Evo).

Thing is, I've started technical training and therefore need an alternative.

What breathes as nice a the s620 ti?

A G260 properly tuned.

SP claims the enlarged exhaust cover reduces exhalation effort by 20 percent. I am pretty sure you would have to be deep (>100') before gas is dense enough to really notice a difference.

The threads on the microadjust are prone to seizing as rsingler noted but nowhere near as bad as the A700 - a reg that shouldn't be allowed within 100' of sand and salt in my opnion 🤨

G260 is built like a tank and very easy breather.

Pretty much all SP balanced regs will breath as nice as s620ti :) Those produced in the last few years have a micro adjustment screw that will allow to set the cranking effort more precisely. G250(V) do not have it but still with a good spring they will breath as close. I do find that G250V and G260 give a bit more precise control feeling over the cracking moment, possibly due to a slightly larger diaphragm. Even BA regs from 30 years ago upgraded to the current parts breath as well, less the VIVA.

And a 20 years old D series kicks ass of all those we mentioned here in terms how well it breathes.
All of their regs are sturdy!
