About to buy my first BC, and am now a bit apprehensive about buying Mares...

Not trying to change the subject onto leisurepro, but I used to deal with them and was satisfied until I had to send something back... When you're purchasing, it's yeah, we will honour warranty and take items back... Then you try to return them, and it's a different story... they lost my business for good... I now deal with Scubatoys which are an authorised dealer, have the best service, will price match almost anything, and give board members here a 10% discount right off the bat! And they take things back without a hassle (as long as you are honnest about it). They are really great to deal with! Give them a try and you will see the difference!

CODMAN, thanks for the heads-up. Those are things I have wondered. As for ScubaToys, how do we get the 10% discount?? Is there a code for ScubaBoard members?? Thanks.

I have heard a lot of good things about ScubaToys....has anyone had any dealings with Joe Diver America? They have a really good deal on a ladies gear package right now and with free shipping. From what I see, they are also an Authorized dealer.

I usually place my orders over the phone, and mention it. Then they give me the 10%. Not sure how they do it over the website. If you e.mail them, I'm sure they'll tell you how to proceed! Believe me, Scubatoys doesn't have such a great reputation for nothing! Once you deal there, you won,t want to buy anywhere else...

Oh, and if they don't have it on their website, ask... they can probably get it for you...

FWIW, I do have a Mares Dragon (non-airtrim) with the MRS weight pockets. I LOVE the BC - most comfy, non-squeezing jacket around. And most recently on a trip to Fiji with the weight pockets in and out all trip long, getting banged and stacked with other weights on the boat, and never had a problem with them. A fellow diver who's an instructor and equipment specialist also had a Dragon on that trip and loves it as well. I have to admit I was leery when I first considered the Dragon because of early reports (a year ago or so) with the weight pockets, but later reports indicated Mares addressed those (seemingly isolated) incidences and I haven't heard of anything since. I'm glad now to have picked up the Dragon. And a quick note: my LDS matched the lowest online price I could find - love that place!

I have sent a few things back to leisurepro, never had an issue. you no longer even need an RMA number; just ship it.
