When diving in Cozumel - doesn't the $1 you pay to the operator for insurance cover the chamber?

At the bottom of the page in this link it states you should be covered: http://www.islacozumel.net/services/chamber/

I guess what I am asking is - do I need to purchase more insurance?

Thanks....

This thread should answer your questions.

The one dollar per day is a donation. I don't know how much insurance you have but I would recommend DAN or some other dive insurance.

Boy, I would not trust it. The site says: Typically each diver pays $1 dollar per day to have full coverage against diving accidents. But I don't believe it, and what are you going to do if it's wrong.

I would never dive without DAN or similar dive insurance.

The thread mentioned by parrotheaddiver reinforces what I had heard in the past- the $1 is not buying insurance.
Let me add another voice to those saying "get DAN insurance,or something like it".
I had a DCS 2 epsiode in August-still have symptoms-and DAN came through big time.
Just remember, in the medical aspect of the insurance- they are a secondary provider, and will begin to pay only after your primary carrier has addressed the situation. That said, the DAN insurance covered (so far) $2300 in related expenses.

That insurance is very worth it.
take care,
Mike

Well, here I sit drinking water. Off to Turks and Caicos tomorrow to get back on the horse. I just re-read this entire thread to make sure it sticks and I take my own advice. I'll post a trip report on return Monday.

Tim, have a safe and fun trip. Looking forward to your report when you return.

Back and all went well. Highly recommend Nitrox. Will post trip report tonight.

This comes up every so often in here, but it bears repeating.

The $1/day chamber "fee" on Cozumel is a voluntary contribution to the upkeep of chamber facilities on the island, and your paying it in no way provides any sort of insurance in the event of DCS. Buy DAN coverage or something like it.

Hey Tim:

Congratulations on your successful return to diving ! It is good to hear that everything went well for you!

January 6, 2005 I return to Cozumel. 49 days. Countdown begins.

Tim,
Just adding my congratulations to you on a safe return to diving.
Best wishes for a wet and safe future.
A question: Is diving more "dear" to you , given that you lost the opportunity for a while?
Good luck,
Mike
