I bought an Oceanic Zeta a few weeks ago and used it in a pool session. I knew before i bought it that it had some need for adjustment out of the box but needed to be "broken in" first. In the pool session it had angles that consistently freeflowed as expected. The instructor i bought it from took it back to his shop after the two pool sessions and i just got it back in my posession today. I just wanted you all to know how pumped i am.

I'm a little dismayed the "Instructor" didn't check it out BEFORE the pool session let alone You did Two sessions with a disfunctional regulator! I'm glad Your happy about diving but concerned about equipment not being in top shape before breathing it underwater..........Bill

I had read many many reviews before buying this reg and about 80% of them have the same issue. After some research i found that the oceanic zeta and omega similarly have these results. The regulator needs to be broken in to seat the piston. once broken in the freeflow can be controlled to normal performance by a one-time internal adjustment. I just hooked it up to my tank and it works like a charm now. The instructor also forwarned me of this issue. I was in a shallow pool in a very controlled environment at this point.

I have had my Zeta for 3 years and after initial adjustment it works great! The Zeta is a different kind of regulator and takes some getting used to as well as practice so you don't "hoover" your air too quickly. Whatever you do, do NOT let anyone who is not certified on Oceanic regs try to adjust it for you. The adjustments are different than most other regs and often times, especially on trips and at resorts, the staff thinks they can fix anything. If you travel a lot, I suggest taking the Equipment Specialist specialty, and learn how the Zeta regulators differ from others.

Good Luck

Never had to "break in" or "internally adjust" a brand new reg before. Seems a bit odd

Sounds fishy to me. I've serviced the Zeta and the adjustment is made by turning the little plastic screw under the purge button. They are a servo valve rather than a traditional poppet valve and some people don't understand how they work so they would bring them back and I would explain the difference. They only require very minor adjustments out of the box. Some people turn the screw two or three turns and get them way out of adjustment.

That would qualify as "internal" i think. Im not about to mess with it anyway. I let a certified oceanic reg tech deal with it. i didnt have to pay for it anyway.
