Unless something has changed, there is only the ADO bus from the Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen. Despite the many wails of horror over the process, it is easy enough. Read about it here.

Just be careful about late arrivals into and early departures from the Cancun airport.

Also consider that you have two options:

1) A flight into Cancun (connection in the US or a non-stop) with bus to PDC and ferry to Cozumel

2) You do not get to go because you want only the perfect travel scenario.

Which do you do? Personally, I often pick #1.

I just checked out apple but could not find any Salt Lake to Coz. Last time I think I used orbitz and they had some kind of special that dandy don told us about. I'm not young and spry so I will fly direct to Coz. If I can get a decent airfair I will join you around Dec 26-Jan 3. I'll confirm later.
