It actually dates back even earlier, to a time when 7% of people worldwide had broadband internet access, AOL had just merged with Time Warner, Microsoft had released Internet Explorer 6.0 and nobody had ever heard of this "Osama Bin Laden". It predates NWGratefulDiver, Vladimir, Thalassamania joining Scubaboard. True, a certain NetDoc had created an account, barely six months before this story started roaming the internet.

Seems to me I first saw it back in the days of the Scuba Section on GENIE, age does not detract from the truth of good parody.
