For myself - a definite NO!. I was taught to get your kit perfected and dive it the same way every time. Even though there are dives where I don't need to carry my pony it's always there. Everything the same every time means everything is where it's expected to be and it's second nature, reflex to use it when needed. Also never anything forgoten.

You'd wear a 7mm or drysuit if you went to the Caribbean? Same as you do at home?

The idea of equipment familiarity is sound... but so is the concept of minimalism/need. Balance the two, to decipher the greatest benefit to overall safety.

As a developing, still inexperienced, diver... the benefit of equipment consistency does have more merit..than it would do for a more experienced diver however.
