The question begs to be asked: How did the DM run out of gas? Unless it was an o-ring failure, it's totally inexecusable.

I first learned about the long hose setup after donating for a real OOA with a short hose. We both got the the surface ok, but after experiencing a 'real' OOA, and having the problems of two linked divers trying to control their buoyancy on the way up (poorly), I said to myself "Self, there has GOT to be a better way!"

That road led to what the caver divers do, and to a hog setup complete with long hose...
