I am a newly certified OW diver. During the course I spent time reading asking questions and studying not only diving but gear. Soon after I was certified I bought everything including a tank. It did allow me to get out and dive. I probably would not have if I had to rent, so I agree with that. So far I am not sorry I bought my own equipment and don't really think I will be. Do the research talk to other divers about where you plan to dive and more importantly why they suggest what they suggest to find out if it is a Ford vs. Chevy reason or a real reason.
