I just ordered a G10 and its WP-DC28 housing.

I have read in the online reviews that the canon weights tend to loosen themselves fairly often, so I am thinking of an alternative.

Do any of you know how much weight to make the g10/WP-DC28 combo neutral in saltwater?

I have put 50 or so dives on my combo and have never had a problem with the weights coming loose. Of course I do include them in my pre-dive checks. the 4 weights are slightly negative in fresh water, but pretty close to neutral in salt water.

Check your weights every time before entering the water. I had the weights come off one while entering the water at Casino Point on Catalina. Fortunately they landed on the bottom step and I was able to put them back on and didn't lose any.

I get the thumb screw finger tight and then grad the weights and make sure they are tight (but not too tight).

I have a WP-DC40 for a s60 camera in which the weights fell off and were lost after the second dive. I now use a large double-ender bolt snap to clip to the housing's lanyard loop (the kind of double-ender you see on large wreck penetration reels) to weight it and clip it off as well to a front d-ring on my harness. The camera/housing is slightly positive when clipped-off, floats back under my arm/shoulder and stays tethered up around my shoulder blade, out-of-the-way.

I have several hundred dives with that combination and don't use weights. Most of my pictures are with one hand...and while I have a light weight tray and strobes, floating is not so bad when you let go of the camera.
