17, watched Dad dive since I was 5ish, 46 now.

Started at age 9, somehow didnt kill myself untill age 25 when i got certified, instructor at 28

Started diving at 27, started teaching it at 30. I'm now 53. You and I got late starts.

I was 40 ... almost 41. I'm now 45. In my book you're starting as a young'ne.
 
I got certified at age 49 very soon after returning from Cozumel where I took a resort course. I´m 57 now and still logging 60 or 70 dives a year.
 
Wow, that certainly sounds better than those first dives I made within sight of Rockaway Beach. Did you find any amphorae? We recovered some beer bottles.:D
The fertile crescent dives never happened, that was just what got us started. My Dad's academic interests shifted but we continued to dive.
