Up the coast in southern Maine I dive the mildest part of the summer in a Bare (7mm) Arctic and the 3mm hooded Chicken vest( 3mm torso and 5mm hood). When it cools off I go to the Arctic 7mm hooded step-in vest. Below 50F it's drysuit time.

I layer and it works great for me. I use a 1mm Scubapro shorty under my 7mm Oceanic. It keeps we warm and fairly dry

thanks a lot for your feedback. very helpful.
i ended up buying 7/5 mm Pinnacle Arctic from PG Dive as well as hooded vest 7/3 mm. my next post will be about gloves. for some reason i forgot to mention them in my original post.
right after I purchased the wetsuit, i found out about really cheap dry suit certification through the university. so, i'm going to get certified and at some point in the future i'll get a dry suit.
