I think every diver should be competent and comfortable in the water. IMO a lot of accidents and fatalities which are listed as "drowning" are probably attributable to the fact that many scuba divers aren't good swimmers.

Although I tend to agree with you, can you support this or is this your opinion? I think I know which agency you are certified in....

Garth - yes, I did say IMO (In my opinion), so yes, it's my opinion and I don't have any data to support it. It is obvious to me that almost ANY problem underwater will be handled much more effectively by someone who is competent and comfortable in the water.

Don't know what agency has to do with it, but FWIW - NASDS, NAUI, PADI,
