Melanie, when I did my deco course I used a bottom timer and tables. My Aeris compute came along for the ride. Comparing how it behaved to the V-planner generated tables taught me how to use it on "light" deco dives.
1)It is rather aggressive. Even though it's only a single gas computer (so doesn't know I'm breathing O2 from 20 feet) a few more minutes at 10 feet would clear it.For any single gas dive surfacing with the computer in the green rather than the yellow is a real good idea.
2)it's a Buhlmann computer. When V planner might be calling for a first stop at 40 feet computer has a ceiling of maybe 10 feet.
That also means spending time at 70 feet after a 120 foot dive will result in increased deco. V-planner doesn't care, 1 minute or 20 at 70 feet makes little difference.
So ,using it on a deco dive my first stop will be MUCH deeper than the computer wants. I stop at 20 feet until it clears deco, then ascend to 10 feet and wait till it gets into the green.
Now,none of the above may be relevant to your computer. My point is if you get a feel for the deco you should be doing you can use a recreational computer, but just following it blindly is not a good idea.
Eventually I got tired of messing with all this and bought a Predator.
If your dives are square profiles then tables/bottom timer are probably the way to go.
