If you are diving out of Panama City the bottom temperature will be in the mid to high 70's this time of year. If you don't like chilly water your 5mm will feel nice. I dive with people who wear 5mms all summer in PCB and some of us are comfortable in just a bathing suit. But on a long dive I don't like it.

Ummm. I dove there three times this Spring. I used a 2-1/2 mil shorty. I was plenty warm for two hour long recreational dives per day. Most of the people on the boats used something similar or just a swimsuit and t-shirt. My experience there has been no deeper than 80 feet and there hasn't been much of a thermocline.

I just dived out of PCB - most people were in trunks and rash vest. I was in a full body lavacore. Temp was mid 80s even at 70ft. I don't recommend thick wetsuits as the neoprene compresses with depth. Therefore you end up overweight at depth which is inefficient. If a 3mil (or equivalent) is too cold then I go for a trilam Drysuit with a very thin base layer.
