...Give me the guy with the card collection, or the patches on his jacket, any day ... as long as he's learning something in the process and enjoying himself while he's doing it.

Excellent answer.

How many cards does it take to get to 300'.

Trimix 2 and Trimix Gold plus however many it takes you reach Trimix 2 (which varies person to person).

Utd does equivelants so its possible to bypass some levels if ur there but generally tech1 --> tech2 --> trimix1 --> trimix 2. With a possible tech2 gold if u wish.

As for price it varies by instructor but it ahould be roughly $1500 for both t1 & t2 plus expenses so its not outrageous.

From the Standards and Procedures doc:

3.5-3 - Trimix Gold
Removes all depth, gas and bottle restrictions.

I was meaning it's possible to cross over to UTD. Some people could probably cross over at the Trimix 2 level. But Trimix Gold specifically requires "UTD Trimix 2". Not GUE Tech 2, not NAUI Trimix II, not IANTD Trimix (or even the no-limits Expedition Trimix) or TDI Advanced Trimix. So however you can get a UTD Trimix 2 card, you need that plus the Gold rating to get to the depth Kern asked about.

...on open circuit. I don't know what UTD's unlimited depth RB course is (if they have one).

One level below Trimix Platinum Plus?

One level below Trimix Platinum Plus?

That's kinda what I thought ... sounds more like a credit card than a certification ...

In addition to the courses, each step requires a certain number of dives completed at the previous level of instruction. For example, to start Trimix 1, you need to have 25 completed deco dives on a helium mix. To start Trimix 2, you need to have:
*Minimum of 250 logged dives, at least 100 dives on double tanks,of which at least 25 are utilizing two (2) deco/stage bottles
*At least 25 dives beyond 160 feet/48m utilizing Helitrox and Trimix
*At least 25 dives in personal training scenarios and environments in preparation for the Trimix 2 class

There is also a hidden requirement--since this is a team diving concept, you have to have a teammate. If you have all the prerequisites but don't have a fellow student with all the prerequisites, you can't take the class.

Of course, someone with TDI Advanced Trimix is already certified to that depth and without the bottle restrictions, so such a diver might not feel too cramped by not being allowed to take the Gold class.

And if I can add to this... people who think that there is only one way to dive, and that they know it...

There is more than one?
