Does Teric shuts itself off after detecting that it is not being worn?
I just got a Teric and I don't recall reading about it in the manual.
When I stop wearing it the watch face simply goes black after some period.
I just got it yesterday so no diving yet but so far I am impressed, fine piece of technology.

Both of mine do

Given the differences I shared between the 2, I still believe I made the right choice for myself getting a PAI instead of the Teric.

No one can ever really argue when you say you "made the right choice for myself", but I kinda get the feeling that you are using this thread as justification for others to follow as well. I followed the Perdix / Terdix discussion for a year before I decided to buy my Teric in March, and as I and others have written in so many posts, you really can't go wrong with either one - it's a personal preference of form factor on two very similarly capable devices.

I went to Chuuk for 3 1/2 weeks in July on the Odyssey, so in addition to my previous GEO2 as a backup computer I took a wireless charger (actually two) as a backup to the cradle breaking or getting lost - and the problem I described with the cradle never caused me to miss a dive with it, it was just an annoyance when it would only charge to 60-some % (about 3 days of diving) and once I started using the rubber band to keep it in contact it always charges to 100%.

At the same time, one of the things I like about the Teric form factor is that it never left my arm. As I took my non-Teric wetsuit sleeve off, I moved it to that arm. Something I really don't see Perdix users doing. Although it would have been nice for one Perdix user when we went for an excursion on the skiff and he forgot that he had hung his Perdix on his tank valve before we rolled off for an unexpected extra dive. Fortunately, he had another Perdix as a backup as well since we couldn't find his even though we searched.

I would venture to say I have heard about as many people missing dives from a Teric battery issue as I have a Perdix battery compartment door one. Neither is intrinsically better than the other - just which is better for the individual. And, yes, always have backup(s)!

Yes - it has an accelerometer in it.

Interesting. I, too, had a Teric that would not completely charge and Shearwater replaced it immediately. My current Teric works very good but, as I said before, discharges while properly resting in the charging cradle, once the solid green light (charging) turns to flashing green light which supposedly means that it's fully charged. When I brought this to the tech dept, they acknowledged the problem and claimed that, eventually, the "firmware" problem would be updated resolving that problem. However, they had no idea when such an update might be released. In the meantime, I have to place my Teric in the cradle the morning that I'm diving in order to get it up to near fully charged prior to leaving my home. I've told Shearwater that this problem is likely widely known and can't be good for their marketing efforts. Still waiting for it to be resolved.

Very roughly, how much does it discharge by over what time-frame (once charging is complete) ? ... I'll give mine a spin and match those parameters and see if it does the same.

Getting older so no brainer for me - Perdix.

That much said, I was caught admiring a dive buddy’s Teric on a LOB the weekend before last.

It’s a lovely little gem of a DC.

My Galaxy S10 charges my Teric. I never charge it past 80% or let it drop below 40%, which is easy when your cell phone can provide a boost in 20 minutes anywhere except a RIB.

I suspect most modern cell phones with this feature will work; take care not to let the Teric sit around on the phone/wireless charger and the risk of battery damage is dramatically reduced.

I've been charging with this method for about 75 dives, and love it. The Teric is fantastic and no need to carry a charger.

I have a Suunto Eon Core and like it a lot. The cons are even with the display on bright in direct sunlight or just below the surface it is hard to read the display or almost impossible. The other con for me is if you miss a stop and do not go back down within so many seconds after surfacing it will lock you out for 48 hours. (I have never missed a stop but have been alerted to it. Went down and waited for it to clear).

Beside that the core is good.

I bought a brand new Shearwater Perdix AI a few weeks back. I absolutely dig the Perdix. Very friendly to work with. Probably will be my last computer purchase for awhile.

Wish you well on whatever you decide. If your eyes are good I believe the Teric is great. Love how compact it is. If your eyes are not sharp up close the Perdix is the way to go.

I can see perfect at distance (past 2 to 3 feet and beyond) up close though I need readers. I am 53 and can see the Teric with my arm stretched out but the Perdix I can see perfectly with just a normal arms length.

Good luck

Glenn

While Shearwater has great customer service, the potential battery charging issues or battery failure/issues of the Teric on a trip would make me really nervous because there’s likely nothing you can do about it while out there no matter how good their customer service is. I spend a lot of time and money on my trips and am usually on a liveaboard most of the time I dive. Given the differences I shared between the 2, I still believe I made the right choice for myself getting a PAI instead of the Teric.

That seems like a bit of an overreaction. AFAIK, nobody’s Teric is discharging so quickly that can’t get at least a full day, if not 2, from one that was charged over night. In other words, I think @Larryjd1 is right. People (generally speaking) aren’t missing dives because of the Teric battery. It’s just a potential annoyance to have to charge it more often than you might like.

Anyone using the bullbars or screen protectors with their Teric?
I think bullbars could be a good idea but they block the visibility of the screen to some extent.
I wonder if there are other practical solution to protect Teric from banging it against objects, etc
The world of scuba can be rough and this is a delicate device...

The Teric has a stellar battery. There are many out there that didn't start with a battery that performed up to spec, and on a piecemeal basis they've been/are getting replaced. To that point, IDK why SW simply doesn't do a recall of affected units; (assuming) there must be a pattern to it.

With the Teric you'll get 30 hours of Dive Mode time.

On my last LOB I did 24 dives over 7 days, just under 21 hours of Dive Mode time, AI, some compass use, med brightness and used 76% of a battery. That's without using it as a watch. If any Teric isn't doing similar then send it back!

For comparison, The PAI will give you ~45 hours of Dive Mode using the recommended Alkaline battery (screen on Medium brightness) - that seems to be without AI (AI on the Teric consumes 10% ... AI and screen brightness being the major consumption factors). Info from SW re this can be found Factors Affecting Battery Life on Shearwater Dive Computers - Shearwater Research and What type of batteries can I use in the Perdix? - Shearwater Research

I did recently read on here that one user had a normally functioning Teric and then suddenly had battery performance issues. I can't find that post, but it was the first of its kind.

I started charging my battery 12 hours ago, and left it on the charger once full. After 5 hours (7 hours post charge) ~it started dropping by just under 2%/hour on average (when full, up to 5 hours it was still displaying 100%). Not massive, but it was being slightly consumed.

I'm wondering if your battery @applecorps has other performance issues which are exacerbating this effect?
