What is a rebreather? I am semi new to SCUBA, and I have been wondering this.
Thanks

The short answer is that it is a device that captures your exhaled gas, removes the carbon dioxide, leaving still quite a bit of oxygen, and then adds additional oxygen as needed. It allows a much longer dive time due improved gas usage and generally produces no bubbles. Technically, I have described a closed circuit rebreather (CCR) and there are also semi-closed circuit rebreaters (SCR) -- but I think you get the general idea.

Needless to say, it requires additional training above and beyond basic scuba certification -- oh, and CCRs cost thousands of dollars.
