Just got back from the Similans (Feb. 20-23). Mantas, zebra sharks and an eagle ray at Bon (and a black blotched stingray at Bon Pinnacle) but missed the whale shark(s) at Richelieu - plenty of barracuda, various cephalopod and nudi actions though, plus a very nice frogfish. The amount and density of schooling fish was stunning. Vis was generally very good in the Similans (and during the two dives we did at South Surin). Temp range: 24-27 degrees C.

24c? brrr....:D

After all the sunshine on the surface, 24 C is... rather refreshing. :eyebrow:

Got back last night from a Similans + Richelieu trip. Water temps mainly 26-27, but with frequent thermoclines. Saw it all, including whale shark @ Richelieu and mantas @ Koh Bon. Lots of big fish like giant trevally and great barracuda; a few sharks. Octopus everywhere. Vis was okay--20 meters or so most of the time.

Dived there 2 weeks ago - 5 mantas at Ko Bon in an afternoon dive, returned to Bon two days later and no mantas during morning dives. Maybe they like to sleep in?

One manta was also spotted in similans and1 down at ko ?tao (one of the southern islands).

Missed the whale shark - guess theres always next time.....

Cheers,
Rohan.
