Canadian duty on a trucked shipment from the US makes air transport from the UK cheaper? Sorry if it's a stupid question.
SOFNOLIME

I don’t know the cost for shipping, but the price is much lower at $100/keg before discounts for a pallet if there’s any.

Depends on if you stack the pallets. Couldn’t tell on rates but they’ve come down from last year.
You can’t stack pallets in a shipping container for export.

curiosity, questions for the logistics people here…

A keg of sofnolime is 20kg (ignoring the container and pallet). A pallet is 32 kegs, so 32 x 20 = 640kg. Call that 700kg/1540lbs total.

Questions:
  • How many pallets can you fit in a standard 40ft container?
  • How much to ship a container from the UK to the US/Canada?

It’s not how many pallets it will be weight limiting.

Gross will change depending on ports and trucking restrictions. Don’t go by the gross of a container, which will incur fees that won’t make it worth it.

Doing this for one container will not be worth it. It’s a lot of work to ship something like this, and Joe Shmo can’t receive it. Not terrible when you do it all the time, not so for a one off. You would be paying for the shipping plus people to handle the import paperwork and logistics, being corrosive chemicals, it’s a specialized service, I’d guess 20K all in for a 40 door to door. Prices were very low not too long ago, went to outrageous and are coming down but still high, 4 years ago it would have been 10K

When I lived in Asia, the Sofnolime market was literally tied up, with us just being referred to the local supplier when we enquired about getting a bulk shipment from the UK. As a result, we worked with Dive Lime to get 812 sent out and got a few pallets at a decent price and with decent shipping. It ended up significantly cheaper than the locally sourced Sofnolime, and we were also able to pass it on to dive centers to support divers with much cheaper sorb. In the warmer water the 812 performance is much closer to 797 and being quite a bit cheaper, it worked well, even not pushing it as far a some do with 797. Divelime were also really good to work with. A couple of pallets are not that bad to chip by sea price wise.
