I'm not so sure about that Chip. From what I have heard just about everything is better in NYC.

Which is why they do all the can to bring their NYC "culture" down here.

Some recommendations based upon my experiences in that area... anywhere from Palm Beach Gardens on down to Lauderdale and then the Keys...

Fill Express is your friend in / around Ft. Lauderdale... :) Their website is a wealth of information and their shop is top notch. Fill Express -- Nitrox & Technical Diving Specialist Serving Greater Fort Lauderdale

Holiday Park Hotel Fort Lauderdale Hotel | Holiday Park Hotel & Suites in Deerfield Beach is a neat little place to stay. As is Sea Echo Apartments / Motel in Ft. Lauderdale by the Sea. (954-776-5803). Alternatively there's the Le Cele Motel right down the block from Sea Echo or The Fort Lauderdale Plaza Hotel near by (it was so-so but ok).

As for charters, Jim Abernathy in Jupiter is pretty good. 561-842-6356

Capt. Tony of Diversity Charter 561-368-9952
Capt. Conrad Miss Conduct Dive Charters 954-698-6139

Move south, the divings better.
Well, it's certainly warmer and (usually) clearer and certainly much less challenging. If the divers who vacation in So. FL shifted to NJ it would put the dive boats out of business; you'd be able to walk to the dive sites on the tourist corpses.

Now I have to say something. I'll start by clarifying that I am not a Florida native, but I am here to stay by choice. While it can be true that some tourists can be ugly, Florida's economy is largely supported by tourists. If it wasn't for all the tourists that visit everything Florida has to offer we might have to pay state income taxes. Rather than flaming outsiders because of where they're from how about just commenting on specific actions. Not all visitors to this state are like that. And they do pay for a lot of the upkeep of the state.

Not all NE Coasters are that way. I grew up in Jersey and I don't think things are much better up north.

Of course they all aren't.

I just hate watching South Floirda and SW Florida become NYC/Jersey/Philly South and the Keys become Martha's Vinyard/ Nantucket South.
