think you should tip him/ her but as Arnaud said it: 'A personalized contribution will say a lot more...'

i think you're gonna have a great time! at the class and at maui! be sure to report everything, the 'tipping' and the holidays :D

dive safe...

with my kids,

I gave the instructor a picture of the kids for his log book (he is single) along with 2 gift certificates at a restaurant near the LDS - each certificate enough to cover lunch there

I recieve tips often. It's really great. I feel bad about excepting them most of the time.

Cash is always nice but the best was 4 tickets to Comedy off Broadway with 2 drinks a piece. When we got there I put my business card in the pot and won 6 more tickets.

Ok, thanks for all the advice on this topic. I completed my classroom and pool training this afternoon. The instructor was great, and as I previously posted, the training was one-on-one. My instructor also loaned me a dive video he had made while diving Maui and Lanai (which I will be visiting in June).
The class went great and we got through the skills pretty quick, which left us a lot of time to repeat anything I needed more practice on in detail.
I gave the instructor a gift certificate for a new local Thai restaurant hoping that he likes Thai food. As it turns out, he had plans to take his son there for his birthday this week, so it was apparently a good choice...

Again, thanks for all the advice on this topic.
