Coroner identifies man who died while scuba diving
Joshua Michael Parke, 36, of The Dalles, Oregon, died Saturday afternoon while scuba diving in Hood Canal, according to the Mason County Coroner’s Office.

Parke was on a training dive in the Sund Rock Conservation Area, near Hoodsport. After surfacing with his dive partner, Parke went unconscious. Two divers pulled him to shore and began CPR. He later died at the scene.

An autopsy is set for Monday. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Dove there 2 weeks ago. Tough thing.

I was just diving there last Sunday with Dori's son ... a brand new diver.

Totally appropriate dive site for OW checkout dives ... there's not much info on what happened.

... Bob (Grateful Diver)

Condolences to the family. It's always tough to hear about a diver dying but it seem more so when it's at a site you've dived before for some odd reason.

So true-- Hit me hard. I have about 200 dives at Sund Rock and have trained many new Open Water students there and guided many dives there as well.

That's gotta be a heart attack or something. Sund rock is like a pond even on the worst days.

Man... Sund Rock is where I did my OW Cert Dives. It does hit a little closer to home.
