My wife and I returned from Roatan early Sunday morning after a week of diving and relaxation. We stayed at Fantasy Island and once again had a great trip. We got to dive some old favorites and also do some great new sites, as well as one drift dive through the reef area on the east end that has no mooring spots.

We were the only scheduled divers at the resort and had the dive boat to ourselves for the week. Our guide was great and very relaxed, balancing pointing out interesting fish and reef features and letting us meander about on the wall and on the top of the reef at our own pace. All our dives were an hour and our boat captain had the best pineapple and watermelon for in between dive snacks. Rays and eels filled the first day and set the tone for the week with lots of critters including some of the biggest fish we have ever seen.

We had a Goliath Grouper swim up to us at the Prince Albert, some of the largest file fish we have encountered, and tons of lobster, crab, lionfish, and puffer fish. We got to see lots of great stuff on our night dives too.

The staff at the resort did a great job taking care of us. They are doing a remodel (rather extensive) but we managed to stay out of the dust and debris and enjoy ourselves very much. The food being buffet style was good, with some excellent main dishes (chicken, pork, and an awesome roast on the first night) and a plethora of fresh fruit.

20 dives in 6 days, with a couple of 4 dive days mixed in were just what we needed. It was a great trip, and we are booked to return next May visting AKR.
