Bonaire.

The water is calm and warm, little or no current, great vis, lotsa little critters, not many big (scary) ones, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Folks is friendly, weather is reliably nice and there's a wide range of places to stay.

Newbies should think twice about the shore diving that gets talked up, since many of the sites can require more strength, skill and perseverance than may be readily available. There are a ton of boats that go out all day and night long, however.

We've been considering Bonaire, but haven't been able to find airfare from the East coast for less than $700pp. Anybody have a line on reasonable airfares to Bonaire?

We usually fly Air Jamaica, from Chicago it costs way less than $700. How do you feel about Erie or Atlantic City?

Try Andy Repetto at Great Southern Adventures. He's always done us right and seems to have some reduced airfare deals.
