Difference between open heel fins and full foot fins:

Open heel are nice because you can walk around once you take off your fins, they also provide insulation from the booties.

Full foot fins are good for pools, or for warm water.

Depends on what you see yourself using them for. Hope this helped.

I use full foot fins whenever possible. Why,
  • Better fit to the foot
  • Better power transfer, less wasted energy from the foot sliding around in the boot and large pocket
  • More efficient, narrower foot pocket and no buckles and straps to drag.
  • No buckles and straps to break or come loose.
  • Fine in cold water, just use a neoprene sock and size the fin to fit.

I use full foot fins for any boat, beach, or freediving.

When do I use open heel fins? When diving in a drysuit and when doing rocky sites in full scuba gear. The rocks are just too hard on your feet when wearing unsoled neoprene socks and carrying the weight of a full scuba rig(did it for two years). When freediving you carry less weight and I usually wear sandals up to the waters edge, then leave them on my float while I dive.
