It's the same question as "Perdix vs Teric". Except, in that debate, the Perdix can offer use of AA batteries as an advantage, which the Peregrine cannot offer over the Tern.

I had a Perdix AI and a Teric and dived them both at the same time for a month or two. I liked the Teric so much better that I sold the Perdix and bought a second Teric.

I use my Terics as my computers on all open circuit diving, including deep technical dives and cave dives. And I use one of the Terics as my standalone backup when I'm diving my CCR on deep or long technical dives.

So, for me, the answer would definitely be Tern TX over Peregrine TX.

And, this coming from someone who definitely has Old Man Eyes. I found the Teric OLED screen to be just as readable as the Perdix AI screen. The screen may be smaller, but that doesn't necessarily mean the writing on the screen is smaller. And, the OLED screen gives so much better contrast than an LCD screen, that that also greatly contributes to readability.

Just received, can wait to dive with it in the next weeks.

Trying to see in the manual but can the display be set up for non-AI use or will it always have a blank or dashed space for tank pressure?

All I ever wanted for Christmas was my two front teeth since they got knocked out and now all I want is a Peregrine with a compass. The rest of it I have no use for.

Yes. You can set up the display the same as a Peregrine (non-TX).

I do not have the Terric so I can’t compare, but I never had an issue with the Peregrine and now the Peregrine TX. Display is clear and in brightness auto mode perfectly readable. You can either set it to high if really you have difficulties.

Only downside with the Peregrine TX so far is the compass. It’s pretty unusable, moving heretically and by 20 degres off. Try to calibrate multiple time today without success. Not sure if it’s my unit or a more general issue with digital compass (my Apple Watch Ultra seems just fine).

What about screen readability? Peregrine's larger lcd display vs. Tern's amoled (supposedly more vibrant)?

I use reading glasses and even then some computers with monochrome lcd and small numbers I find hard to read.

I am a new diver and have old man eyes. I cannot read without my glasses. I went to look at a Peregrine as my geek treat before my OW certification. Despite a lot of research, I didn’t know the Tern was released a few weeks earlier I REALLY wanted the possibility of AI, but wasn’t willing to look at a Perdix or Teric.

I wanted the Tern due to the AI but knew it was worthless if I couldn’t read the display underwater. The much brighter and sharper OLED made me choose the Tern TX. I can read it very well underwater! I have not tried to figure out the compass yet because I suck at navigation and want to learn on a plain old compass first. I did not have a transmitter because I wanted to learn diving with an SPG. That went well, and I am now looking forward to using my new Tern transmitter.

Had the Peregrine TX been out when I made my purchase, I am confident I would have stayed with the Tern TX because of the very bright, razor sharp display. Either is a great choice!
