Why are PADI replacement cards so expensive?

I can't believe this thread has gone on for 3+ years, over $37 or $47. Apart from an airfill, and a snorkel keeper, this has to be the least expensive and longest lasting bit of kit you're likely to acquire.

I'm no fan of PADI (I am pleased to say that I have zero PADI certs...) but every large organization has a bunch of overhead and the cost is distributed across their products. If postage is included in the cost of that card, then really, it's almost nothing...

When I think of the money I have tied up in this pursuit, a few bucks for a new card wouldn't even make a blip on the radar.
