I think women should wear baggy bikini bottoms under their wetsuits. :D
On more than a couple occasions I've had the pleasure of seeing them come down a little too far as they peeled off their wetsuit.

It makes more sense to wear them under the wetsuit instead of over the wetsuit, unless one is making a fashion statement. Then there is the issue of keeping the junk in the trunk(s). A good point was made earlier about possible legal implications, especially if there are young divers aboard. There are places where the locals put clothing on classical Greek statuary and frown upon women breast feeding an infant in public.

Unless you are over 60 and from the great white north, in South Florida a speedo is a no-no even on a dive boat! +1 for compression shorts (I like the black ones Champion makes, matches my wetsuit)
I wear compression shorts in our LDS pool, but then we have his/her bathrooms to change in after the fact. The first time I wore them, I got out of the wetsuit pool side and my wife told me to never do that again. I didn't see anything wrong with it, but there were moms watching their kids taking swim lessons and apparently my wife thought it was inappropriate for the kids to see a grown man in compression shorts. I think it was she didn't want the moms checking me out. :cool2: That's my story and I'm sticking to it hahaha. Anyway, I now where swim trunks when out in "public".

In Jamaica I'm nude until I get on the boat, and then put on a shorty. It's the same for some of the other men and women as well. Up north we have to change in public so I wear compression shorts.

assent.jpg Yes folks...I'm naked under that shorty

So you can put your wetsuit on and off in public without being nude.

Obviously this is the only real answer. MOST people in "our" society/culture don't want to be nude in public. Also, most don't want to wear underwear only in public (though there's not much difference from swimwear, especially with bikini's). When gearing up and down in my basement for an ocean dive I go commando. One less thing to rinse out.

Am I the first lady in this thread? I like to wear a bathing suit under my wetsuit because I like the support for my ... umm... upper body in addition to the modesty it provides when taking it on and off. Thankfully, not chafing issues for us girls :)

I surf with nothing under a 3mm, but I can't elegantly don a 7mm without exposing myself. Also, jammers under a wetsuit means you can remove and rinse the wetsuit without a complete costume change. I wear jammers under my drysuit as well because it is only slightly drier than my 7mm.
