Babieca Dive Center

Hey Folks,
My wife and I are going to be in Cozumel the week of May 2nd and we are staying at El Cid La Cieba and I was wondering if anyone could give some feedback on the Dive op on site? I did a search and it seems the last reference was in 2011. The few times we have been in Coz we dove with Alison and had a great experience. I am just wondering due to convenience.

I dont dive with them when I stay at El Cid. I have actually very seldom seen anyone dive with them. I stay there but dive with Tres Pelicanos who pick me up at the El Cid pier or provide me with transport to the Caleta

Stayed at el cid 3years ago and dove with them. No problems,they let us dive our profile. I think dive op manager was Juan Carlos.

Well, it sure won't be Alison.

To put it in understandable terms, like going from the Off seat in the truck to back of the bone box....

Why not Alison again if you had a great experience? She picks up from there I'm pretty sure.

Well, in fairness, a quick search of this forum has a few people this year saying very nice things about Babieca with only some minor complaints. Chedderchick loves them. Go up and hit search forum. Their TA isn't bad at all either.

Their boats are smaller and, of course, slower than the Max. Sounds like nothing wrong with them. However you did invite the comparison, so my opinion came from that.

Another vote for Alison (kinda sad we aren't using her this year- but excited to try Tres Pelicanos). However, double check on the pick up. She definitely used to, but I think she told me this year she is only picking up South of the marina. At least there was one hotel she used to pick up at that she isn't anymore. I don't remember if it was El Cid, or Casa del Mar or both...

I did a search but only found info and posts from 2011, maybe I should try different key words. Thanks for the feedback. Not looking for a comparison, I know Alison and how she runs things. She is awesome and my family loves to dive with her. I was just curious what folks here think about Babieca. I have looked at trip advisor, but only 14 reviews and 3 of them not good. I guess the only reason I would consider them is their pricing for 5 days of 2 tanks diving saves me about $150.00 for the week. Also the convenience of lockers for gear.
