    online dive log

I haven't used any and can't make any recommendations. I did find another one on Diverlink at http://diverlink.com/index.php?module=divelog&func=main. It has the option to share dive logs with DAN and a lot of other features, including an integrated dive site database. On features alone, it is...

    WARNING***Ebay selling unsafe cyl

You're confused and misinformed on several issues. www.dot,.com is a general shopping directory site. The DOT (Dept. of Transportation) , hazmat division, atan entirely different URL, regulates scuba cylinders. What safety alert are you referring to? The 6351-T6 cylinders are still safe for...

    Where to learn???

Thanks for reinforcing my point, Ron, that the PADI 5 stars are based on money and marketing, not quality.

    Where to learn???

You misunderstood, I did not say PADI has no QA. It does what other agencies do, it relies on feedback from newly certified divers (and others), all second hand information. The newly certified don't know enough to know if standards have been met in most cases, but hearing from them is better...

    Where to learn???

That just isn't true. I think PADI chose the 5 star name as a deliberate deception so that people would assume it has some correlation to quality, as with the Michelin rating guide for hotels and restaurants, which is an indication of quality. Assumptions like yours prove their deception works...

The Great local dive shop vs. online debate

Thank you for proving what I said "There is nothing so bad as a zealot with a cause. They defy reason and the truth to pursue their agenda." Calling everything a red herring, avoiding the questions and issues posed and redirecting to your own propaganda is easier than addressing the issues...

The Great local dive shop vs. online debate

Genesis, While I think you mean well, what you don't know about economics and dive shops could fill an ocean. There is nothing so bad as a zealot with a cause. They defy reason and the truth to pursue their agenda. You don't have a clue as to why things are as they are and blame...

    Skin diver is gone..?

Skin Diver began to decline long before Primedia bought the magazine. In fact, that decline began when Chuck Blakeslee and Jim Auxier sold the magazine to Petersen Publishing. Up to that point Skin Diver magazine played a vital role ih the history of scuba diving. After the sale it was just a...

any other agencies other than padi and naui?

There are a lot more agencies than those two, though availability will depend on where you live. See Certification Agencies for most of them. As far as a comparison, there is a controversial article at http://diverlink.com/newdiver/agencycomparison.htm It's so controversial that PADI sued the...

    Padi Vs. Naui

It depends which specific standards are being referred to. They cover a wide range. For instance, the RTSC lowered the minimum age for divers to 8. PADI and SSI will certify kiddie divers but NAUI and YMCA are sticking to the 12 year minimum. In that respect, PADI and SSI do not exceed the...

    Should Children Dive?

That can be a good idea. Some divers use buddy lines, which is what you are talking about, when diving in low visiblity conditions. Just make sure it can be removed easily in case of obstruction. It's easier, but not necessarily faster. It's still good to know a few basic hand signs. They can...

    Liquid in your tank

You can tell him that air does have weight and that it is approximately 14.7 pounds per square inch at sea level. That's why when we descend to 33 feet in salt water, we are down the equivalent of 2 atmospheres, the one of air and another with the equivalent pressure in water.

    Should Children Dive?

There's no proof either that pregnant women shouldn't dive but the best medical evidence indicates it is not a good idea. The same is true for children diving. No one wants to risk fetuses to get proof, but SSI and PADI (the only two agencies that allow divers that young) are not above risking...
