I am burned out and need to get away so booked a plane ticket today for a week on Roatan leaving next week. I have never been there and am on somewhat of a budget. Looking at West End and/or West Bay. Not interested in AI's as will be solo. I think I have the diving part sorted so looking...

    Vegetarian Divers?

What is wrong with eating your cat? After all, if God didn't want us to eat cats why did he make them out of meat?

    Max. depth on Air

Depends on the circumstances (i.e. water clarity, number of dives, purpose of the dive/spearfishing). Have been to 180 and routinely drop to 150 on air. REally depends on what type of dive.

Anyone going to be in Coz July 2 - 6?

Travelling solo and need to find 3 other people who would like to dive in the afternoon. I have morning dives booked but am having problems with the afternoon dives. The dive shops will not reserve anything thing unless 4 divers go out. So, if anyone is interested in diving the afternoon...

    Question about Instructors

I have seen various posts stating that to get a better job as a resort destination scuba instructor it helps to speak another language(s). I am curious as to which languages (besides English) would be the most beneficial for an instructor to know in the following locations: Carribean...

    Maya Ha Resort

I stayed there for a week a little over a year ago. Assuming the same people are running the dive op. The resort is nice especially for the area. You should know, however, that there is not much to do as far as outside entertainment is concerned. Don't expect Cozumel or Playa del Carmen...

    Dove Xcalak recently?

I have been to the Maya Ha in Majahual and dived the Banks. They have a large boat so unless it is really rough you should not have a problem with sea sickness (get a scopamine patch and don't worry about it). As for the diving on the Banks, it is very easy diving. Not too deep and little...

    Help with PNG diving

Just starting to research a possible trip to this area and have discovered that it is varied with different types of diving depending on the location. Which itinerary (live aboard) would you suggest if want to dive nice reefs but also want some pelagic action? In other words a mixture of the...

    Nurse Shark Encounters

Globe was a Nantucket whaling ship in 1800's. William Comstock was I believe a Boatseer on the ship and, together with a handful of crew members, murdered all the ships officers. He landed in Milli with the idea of setting himself up as a sort of god/chief among the natives on a tropical...

    Nurse Shark Encounters

Anybody ever use scuba gear for a tax deduction?

can you also right off the cost of the certification course for becoming an instructor? How about trips if you are "working" as in a student is doing checkout dives with you on the trip?

Would love to go this summer but no $$$$. I already spent my budget this year and am using frequent flyer miles which requires planning a long time out. Plus, July is the rainey season in Palau.

    Lesson Learned the Hard Way

due to my business, I am fortunate enough to accumulate roughly 30,000 membership reward points per month with AMerican Express. Currently have 420,00 points. These can be transferred to most airlines at a 1:1 rate so in essence I have this many frequent flyer miles. Unfortunately, American...

    Curious About Something

never gave it much thought before but what credentials do many of these dive ops in the Carribean require of their "dive masters". It doesn't really matter to me because I have never expected or wanted the dive masters to hold my hand. I would assume that live aboard operations such as the...

    this board is invaluable

I certainly enjoyed the thrashing my Dawgs put on the Gators the year before in Starkville. However, the payback was hell this year in Gainsville. Ouch. No need to dish it out to my Auburn friend. He is stuck with Tubberville so that is punishment enough.

    Question about Fiji liveaboards

anyone recommend a particular Fiji liveaboard? Second, is it even worth it in Fiji to do a liveaboard as compared to landbased package on Taveuni. The liveaboard is more expensive than Taveuni (although more dives on the liveaboard). Thanks in advance.
