    It can happen to you.

Our club had its first DCS case in decades last weekend. The diver spent six hours in the chamber after recognizing symptoms of DCS. Four hours after his dive, he felt nauseous, his forearms hurt, and the left side of his face went numb. The doctors classified it as a "Class C" dive injury...

What is your favorite sea creature?

Grey Reef Sharks... they're like puppy dogs who tug at your fins and play with you underwater! Oh wait....

    Vytec Adjustable RGBM

I ran similar sims yesterday using the Suunto dive manager. The RGBM showed no changes despite repetetive dives. Either the dive manager software doesn't work or RGBM50 is worthless. I'll try it on my Vytec next time I think about it.

    Vytec Adjustable RGBM

I would try doing a dive sim in RGBM 50. Be sure to do multiple dives as the RGBM attenuation will proabably be evident in the dives after the first. If you don't have one, I could do a sim for you.

New LOGO for New Dive Shop

That logo would make a sweet tattoo if you're into that sort of thing. Nice.

Are there any "scuba laws" or restricitions in your country?

USAKA dictates that no one dives below 130, no decompression diving, buddy system is to be used, and that you be checked out once by a divemaster prior to undergoing diving activities. If you are certified on island, or hold a BOW cert upon arrival, you have 6 months to get your AOW otherwise...

    Mooring Advice

What is the purpose of the chain that attaches the cement base to the line in the following picture? Does this stop line chaffing?

    Mooring Advice

My scuba club has tasked me with investigating methods of installing moorings on our popular dive sites. We feel that moorings are friendlier to the reef than our current anchor system. Also, moorings on wrecks look to be safe as opposed to anchors which have proven themselves not to be. I...

    Vyper Lockout

I was going to show you the Bikini page about Cochran. http://www.bikiniatoll.com/Cochran.html I would forget what Rodale's has to say, and get yourself a Zeagle Status II. It's among the favorites at Bikini. While I don't think they've updated their computer list lately, Bikini seems...

15' Safety Stop vs Minimum Deco

But this fits into this thread somewhat. A buddy of mine made a spread sheet for a dive to 130fsw for a bottom time of 8 minutes. He used the Buhlman ZH-L16C tissue half-times and modeled the 16 tissue compartments at each point during the dive. After setting a series of constraints, he used...

Have you damaged a dive site ?

Last dive I was on I saw a sea turtle laying on the coral. Well I wasn't going to stand for that so I swam up, put my regulator up against his head Navy-Seal style, and shouted "get your stinking flippers of the coral you jerk!" Then we sped off in our gasoline-outboard.

    Vyper Lockout

Long story short, history, profile data, and personal settings will remain even though the battery has been removed. Nitrogen loading, oxygen loading, and time settings will be lost, thus, the no-fly time will also be lost. The manual does not explicitly say whether or not the Err condition...

    electronic compass

It's not a solution to anything. It's just a bonus feature on a stop watch. When I found that it works as well as my standard compass, I just stayed with it and freed up some arm-space.

    Los Angeles Dive Ops

Do yourself a favor and don't get cert'd with PW. Unless you don't mind that your instruction staff is distracted by their own 4 year old children playing in the pool while you "try" to learn. Then if you have trouble with a certain skill they'll send you home as to not hold back the rest of...

    ear equalization????????

Going down... Left Ear: Thoooomp. Right Ear: Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....eeeeek! Going up... Both: pop pop pop I had a lot of trouble with my ears at first. Almost to the point where I almost quit. My ears would hurt after diving and at one point they hurt for an...

    Used ScubaPro Tanks Bargain

I recently purchased four ScubaPro steel tanks. I believe they are high pressure, as the valve is the seven-thread DIN. However, they are rated to 3000psi which makes me wonder if they are HP or LP. I believe their volume is an odd figure like 71.5 cubic feet or something similar. They are...

    Considering BP/wings setup...

As far as I undertand it, the Halcyon wings were designed for specific configurations. The Pioneer series was designed strictly for single tanks, while the explorer was designed strictly for doubles. You could use the Explorer in the single tank configuration, but then the wings fold up around...

    Suunto - Vytec...anyone using one?

From the "Message from the Head Divemaster" page: "Dive computer: pay close attention to the computer you are bringing. Most dive computers on the market are not designed for staged decompression diving and will lock-up on you or go out of range. This is because the manufacturers are afraid...
