    Saba/St Kitts live-aboard in December?

We are thinking about booking the EV liveaboard at the end of Dec/start of Jan (Saba/St Kitts itineraries). I have read everything I could find on this site regarding Saba but have additional questions... Anyone know what the weather is like that time of year? Windy? Any other thoughts? We dove...

Diver death in Catalina this weekend?

Many condolenses for the loss of your friend. Always a tragedy when we lose a diver... Such a tight knit-group... Like losing one of our "own" even when we don't know them personally. My heart goes out to you & the diver's family.

Diver death in Catalina this weekend?

Thanks Ken & Dr. Bill for the clarifications! So what we saw was from the SB Island accident then... So glad that it was slow that day at the UW Park... A new grp of OW students got in the water right after that & I am so glad they weren't there to see the transport. (Although, as a med prof...

Diver death in Catalina this weekend?

Thanks Dr. Bill. So strange that nobody would even know about it... Makes me wonder if it was really a diver (vs a swimmer/boater)... But that's what the waitress at the restaurant told us... And it was def at the UW Park. Tragic either way. Thx!

Inexpensive dive trip *other* than Bonaire?

Yep! Was there last year... Mary's on Roatan is my fav dive spot of all time! I always stay at Las Rocas Dive resort... Very inexpensive & great dive staff. http://www.lasrocasresort.com

    Backplate for Petite Women

Tried that one too... Shoulders are great. Torso is still too long. Even though it an XXS, the torso length is still the same as all the other IQ Packs (unlike the DiveRite which is about 2 inches shorter in the S & XS versions.)

How do you feel about guaranteed to pass IE programs?

Yep. And you also don't have to make sure a student is fit to dive anymore either. (It's my understanding that the old medical requiring MD sign off to dive was replaced-- Now students only need a medical sign off IF they answer "yes" to any of the questions on the med release. (Keep in mind...

    Backplate for Petite Women

Totally agree! I am 5'2", 103 lbs & the DRite alum bp is perfect. (I actually use the travel wing with it & the DRite XS harness.) First bp/wing was an OMS (32 wing)... Hated it. Would never recommend this for a petite woman... Wing was so HUGE on me--If you were standing behind me, you...

Mask Removal/Replacement While Holding Trim & Bouyancy

Hey Suthnbelle, Try looking down when you take your mask off... I see this happen with students all the time... Mask off, head tilted up a little (or looking straight) & water (and bubbles) up the nose...Subsequent coughing. If you look down (or pull your chin towards your chest) it will...

    What about force fins?

Thanks to all for the input gang... I am going to give them a try! Anyone know the buoyancy characteristics? Postive or negative?

    What about force fins?

Anyone know anything about "force fins"? Was recently on a live-aboard & all the Europeans were wearing them (and loved them)... Tried a SB search of the forums but must be doing it wrong-- All I got was a lot of stuff about "force" and about "fins"... But nothing on "force fins."

Lessons to be learned-Death in Palau

I actually put a pocket on my wetsuit & I have all my "safety equipment" in there...(The inside of the pocket has loops & sections so I can keep it all organized.) I, personally, don't like things dangling from my BC-- especially since the "emergency kit" was getting rather large & I am sans...

    Palau Agressor II

I have not personally been on the Aggressor but I have used the "Undercurrent" publication (as well as their once yearly "Chapbook") to check on other live-aboards & so far, those resources have been right on... I know the Aggressor is in the Chapbook so you may want to check it out... Might...

Lessons to be learned-Death in Palau

You think you are paranoid? I insisted on putting those little white reflective stickers everywhere on my BC (the ones that radio waves are supposed to be able to pick up)... And I have been on what seems like the never-ending quest to find the "perfect" signaling strobe... Ha ha ha. Anyone...

    Altered Oceans

WOW! Thanks for passing along Sandbar! Have read a lot about this stuff from various organizations (REEF Check, Project AWARE, etc) but have not seen this yet... Does it show anything about what we divers can do? (Don't seem to be able to download it right now from the PC that I am on.)

Lessons to be learned-Death in Palau

Ya, my dive buddy boyfriend & I also use a line to join us together, if needed-- just in case. Sorta like a jon line but with clips on both ends... We picked it up at REI & modified it...It's red but they also have them in black & you can get different lengths (6 ft, 9ft, etc.). And since we...
