I've been building a website (oahudiveguide.com) to help educate divers new to the island by providing maps and information on popular shore dives. It would be cool to be able to integrate a global map on scubaboard with crowd-sourced dive maps and guides

could you use the gps coordinates for points along the dive to produce a kml? then you could import it into google earth/maps. That would allow you to reference the dive path off the satellite image
Hypothetically yes, and I kind of do that now. If you go to the page I linked and click the Google Earth button, you'll see the map I made with the GPS points
