I would go with Atomic. I personally like the M1, but their whole line from Z2-T2 are great and preform superbly.

Scubapro is world-wide w/Scubapro Asia Pacific, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland and the Americas.

Apeks xtx50 is a rock-solid reg that will be cheap and easy to service wherever you're doing any technical diving, unless you're doing some sort of exploratory expedition stuff (and if you are, then it's one of the easiest to learn to service yourself). Get DIN and buy yourself a yoke adapter.

I've got a Scubapro MK25 that I haven't used in 4 years because the service kit is so expensive here (Taiwan) -- or, at least it was as of a few years ago.

Again thanks for the info, i have been told by a lot of people about atomic, but Ive been looking at prices and they are very expensive. I am a college student living on financial aid so cost is a huge factor for me, i understand the reg is something you don't want to skimp on, but im looking for quality for cheaper haha i know that's easier said than done.

I was a college student (sorta) back in 1986 when I bought my ScubaPro MkX/G250, and it was s stretch of the budget at the time. But, I still have that reg, parts are readily available, plenty of places to get it serviced and it breathes like a champ! I have since moved on to Atomic's as my primary in recent years, but keep my Mkx/G250 around in case I need. A few bucks upfront was a worthy investment over time.

Are you now or working towards becoming an AAUS diver? Or work for an AAUS organization in Hawaii now? http://www.aaus.org/home

If so, they now have organizational pricing with Hollis Dive Gear so I would assume that's something you would qualify for also thru your sponsoring organization - http://www.aaus.org/uploads/protected/files/publications/e_slate/2012/e_slate_aaus_2012_6_12.pdf - page 3.

Also their Dive Control Board has a list of approved equipment so it makes sense to buy something on the list instead of something else you'll have to replace later. http://www.aaus.org/diving_standards

Section 3.20
Regulators
a)
Only those makes and models specifically approved by the Diving Safety Officer and the Diving Control Board shall be used.
b)
Scuba regulators shall be inspected and tested prior to first use and every 12 months thereafter.
c)
Regulators will consist of a primary second stage and an alternate air source (such as an octopus second stage or redundant air supply).

I am going to apply to AAUS course this summer at UCLA. I work with an organization KKP, in hawaii, which is a humpback whale project. I am a environmental science major and biology minor, specializing in marine mammals. So i thought AAUS was a cert i need to have.

Anyone suggesting that parts are readily available for Scubapro and Aqualung must be living in an alternate universe. Never buy a regulator that YOU can't buy parts for. You will want to service your own one day.
