Sorry if the answer to the question below is obvious :shakehead:

As a new diver, I'm slowly buying my own equipment. And now as I've got open-heel fins with boots and long wet suit, I began to wonder how does one wear these. I mean - does the boot go over the wet suit or rather the other way around? Is there any "one way" of putting them on or does it rather depend on individual preferences?

The boot goes under the wetsuit leg. The idea is to keep as little water as possible flowing through the suit, including your boots. If you wore them outside, the water would just keep flushing in and out, and your feet would get cold.

Individual preference, really.

I prefer to put my leg cuffs over my booties. That looks a little :dork2: , I think, but does at least a couple of things -- keeps the bootie zippers from coming un-zipped, and keeps water from draining down into the booties after getting out of the water. Both of which are even more :dork2: -ish.

Well, let's put it this way...

How would you like to be the guy on the right if you happen to pee in your wetsuit? :D

If you want that "Popeye" look for your legs, by all means tuck your legs into the boot! You will succeed at drawing attention to yourself as you make your exit! :D For a sleeker look, keep your legs on the outside of the boot. Fewer will point at you with that "Noob!" gleam in their eyes!

Then there are those of us with such skinny ankles that the boots fit better going on the outside of the wetsuit. My advice to the original poster is that she simply try both ways and pick the one that works for her.

My wetsuit fits well enough that I don't have any problem with water being trapped in the legs as I exit.

The one downside is that urine does tend to collect in the boots, and if I don't wash and thoroughly dry the boots, they can get really funky.

Donno. Don't wear booties.
