It wasn't the Divi property which got cleared - it was the lot adjacent to Carib Sands (west side). Supposedly it's the development for the new Marina (the southside one); there's also been stuff cleared to the west of Scott Dock on the north side - but this supposedly going to be condos (the Marina at Scott is supposed to be between the Dock and the old Buccaneer).

Odd part of it all is that the southside property was _supposedly_ bankrolled by the same person who owns the Buc (where utterly nothing has changed for a decade or longer).

That is a huge disappointment, many are wishing the Divi property would get straightened out.

I just returned from Brac and the Divi property has been cleaned up but it is still deserted and derelict. A local told me that the property is still owned by the Divi corporation and that the Caymanian government told them to clean it up or they would do the job and bill them - so they did some work to make the property look neater. At this time there are no plans to develop the Divi site.

Read between the lines to see what Divi is really saying about the economic opportunities "beyond a diving destination" to read "we wanted a casino". Sad to see that place go down...we took our honeymoon there in 1995 and it was a really nice place back then.

When we were on Brac last October, the local that told me that the Cayman Government had ordered Divi to clean up the property also told me that she was working there when the resort closed. She said that the news was totally unexpected. The dive operation had just spent a lot of money on upgrades and installed a nitrox station and bought some new dive boats.

The resort owners just locked the doors and left everybody standing around looking confused. The chef started handing out free supplies of meat, produce, and other foodstuffs to locals rather than letting the stuff rot. The hotel property was still loaded with furniture and appliances and décor items so they held a lottery.

I think she said that you had to put in $100 into the lottery to draw a room key out of a basket. You could take everything in that room as long as you hauled it away quickly. People took everything they could manage including bathtubs and toilets, light fixtures and furnishings. She said that there was a long line of trucks and cars and boats going back and forth to Divi went on and on for days.

It doesn't sound like very responsible company, they just decided to cut their losses and didn't give a darn about the people that were affected, the staff or their business partners, or the big eyesore they were leaving on this lovely island.

We got some good family shots at the bar at Divi 2 summers ago with all those handmade "we were here signs" that are still in decent shape.

Anyone here have one of their signs up?

If you're willing, it would be great if you would walk the property and report back.
Last I knew it was as seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KGf4J8pcVY
but he didn't go far enough to show the time shares.

thank you,

Where are you staying? Have fun, I love Cayman Brac! If you go to Divi wear shoes, socks, and long pants; I heard stories about poison ivy.

While you are there, try and find out about the plan for the upcoming construction at BRBR. Supposedly they will be closed from August through mid November while they build a new pool and beach bar. (Is that all that is planned, does it really take that much time to do only that? What was wrong with the existing pool and bar anyway?)

But BRBR is still advertising specials and reservations on their website, so what gives? Will some guests be staying there during the construction? What will happen to the Reef Divers operation while the resort is closed?

I'm just curious because we almost made reservations for BRBR for the fall but decided on LCBR instead. Now I am very glad that I won't be staying in a construction site.
