One option for steaming lobsters is to put (cleaned) beach stones on the bottom of the pot. This raises the bugs out of the water -- leading to good steaming and no boiling.

And it is a whole lot cheaper than buying a dedicated steaming device.

mels_2:
you have to be a mass resident to get a lobstah license in mass I believe, it's $40.
There is also a $60 "summer resident" permit for non-residents that own greater than $5,000 of Mass. real estate and are temporarily living in a Mass. coastal town.

Charlie,
Temporary resident of Fairhaven

When the lobster is saltier than the water it will loose salt to the unsalted water and take some of the water with it. This will diminish taste and tenderness. As any good cleaner will tell you minerals (aka Salt) will not be carried in steam, this is one reason clothes are steam pressed. *Please do not steam press Lobsters*
