The most amazing thing from my point of view (as an American) is that it appears that the military did the right thing!

We can only hope that they continue to do the right thing until a democratic government is elected and a new parliament is put into place by the people.

I don't know what they are going to do but I hope that they end up eradicating all remnants of the regime and go about rebuilding their country and their democracy. Tunisia appears to be doing just that.

There are many successful revolutions in what used to be the communist block that would provide inspiration and hope.

I am not trying to rain on your celebration, but there is much yet to do.

You are right. There is soo much to do. This is only the very beginning in a very long journey. I am counting on the hope that people have had enough of tyranny and will be wise enough to do the right thing Insha-Allah (God Willing).

I don't live in the region or have more than a passing familiarity with it's history but I'm very happy for the Egyptians today.

It is truly an amazing thing that the Egyptian people have done. Much congratulations to you all, it is inspiring.

Now if Mubarak is really making off with billions of dollars that were bilked from the country, the next part of this story should be the international monetary systems taking those billions away from him and giving it right back to the people.

My reservation is the parliament not willing to give up power, but you are certainly better situated for an observation than I.

What is more interesting, what other regimes will follow??

Well I am guessing somebody in Tehran might be taking steps to block certain areas of the internet to avoid another facebook revolution.

Interesting that back in the 1930's the Socialist party (read Nazis) took power by controlling the media at that time (newspapers).

Nowadays the media is controlled by the people.

I hope that Egypt moves fast in returning to business, but there is so much bureaucracy involved in day to day life there, I am not sure how long that will take.

I don't think that Iran is next by any means. The ruling regime there has substantial grass roots support. The Iranian government has had many achievements for the country whereby most Arab regimes haven't achieved anything except slogans and staying power. If and when people in Iran start a sustainable uprising, it will be bloody and far worse than what happened in Tunisia or Egypt.

I am under no illusion that things will improve overnight in Egypt. You can't undo the damage that took 50 something years to do in a short time. There is lots of corruption, bureaucracy, financial issues, etc. to deal with and change will take sometime to feel it. This is a first step in a long series of steps. Now we have hope for a better tomorrow and better next year. We didn't have this up until the Tunisian and Egyptian uprisings took place. More power to the people!!!

Congratulations to the Egyptian people! The world is extremely proud of the way you stood up for freedom and we will be cheering for you as you move forward toward a better country for EVERYONE!

Thanks Crowley and everyone in Egypt for your insights and reports, I am looking forward to finally getting to dive in the Red Sea before I leave Africa!:D
