Hiya Queen..
I can only echo what most of the others have said here. When most of my regular dive buddies moved on or lost interest, the only way I was getting wet was by forking out $100 to do a boat dive and hope to get a buddy or squeeze into a threesome. So I ended up stopping for a while.

Now I've joined up with the LDS, who organise semi-led (DM for beginners) shore dives just about every Saturday. Then buying a tank made it even easier - it was the last piece of equipment, and even though a lot of diving is needed to make it a good financial decision, it means I can go on a dive for the total cost of $6 for an airfill and not have the hassle of picking up a hire one the night before.

And because we sometimes also go to the LWH (local watering hole) after a dive, you get a chance to socialise with the people you just spent an hour underwater with, and can organise other dives. Hell, if you're lucky one of them might have a garage full of surplus equipment that you could borrow while building up your own kit.
