Bulls and tigers sound good from my chair but I know I'd **** my pants if I saw either. So, I'll have to go with a hammerhead. It's just a crazy looking fish. I've dived in areas where they sometimes are but was never lucky enough to see one. One of these days I'm gonna have to hit Layang Layang in May.

Oceanic Whitetip... they eat dolphins! Take that Flipper!

wow...where did you get that pic? Galapagos look kinda like this too. We have these here and they say they are gnarley sharks.

Freaky, Bella.

I googled the pic...

Catherine, if you dive the off shore buoys this is the shark you will most likely see. From what I've heard these are more dangerous than tigers, but it is extremely rare that they come close to shore.

hat a good question. Well....they may not be the sleekest but i got a real affinity for the Heterodontidae (horn and Port jackson sharks). They look a bit more like mammals than fish I think - so cute.
Of course Great White is an awesome shark and you can't deny it. It's got a genus all to itself, the only other known Charcaradon being Charcaradon megalodon, which means that it was either the only species of this genus tough enough to survive, or it fought off the rest of the competition!
The Mako isn't the only shark (or fish for that matter) to have a rete mirabili in oreder to keep itself warm. Many of the mackeral sharks can. It speeds up digestion etc.
Well it's hard to pick one. I love them all in their own way cos they all have some unique characteristic which makes them special. I just think that the heterodontidae make an interesting study group cos of their strange distribution and the fact that (as the name suggests) they have specialised dentition unlike most other sharks which are homodontic.

Am quite fond of Port Jacksons myself - love the fact that they are not at all skittish; I used to do a lot of diving around Sydney and invariably I would find a group of these guys just chillin' out on the bottom - one could approach and get very close to them and just hang out.

I think all sharks are cool, but my favorite would be the hammerhead. They're so uniquely different from the others and their congregations are fascinating.

if we can consider rays belong to the shark family; then I would chose manta rays

I like the soupfin. They are sleek and beautiful sharks. More importantly, after centuries of devastating fishing for them, they are more afraid of me than I am of them!
