I like the 1", but I dive dry. What with having a weezle extreme on under a Bare ATR-HD trilam suit, I can't imagine it feeling like arse floss unless maybe I was being hoisted out of the water by it.

Thanks sooooo much for that image! :11:

:D :D :D

Since this isn't a load bearing area (thank goodness) 1" webbing does an adequate job for its intent.

OK..... I am using two versions of the crotch straps, Halcyon stock one and DIY 2 inch seal belt type..

You are right! It isn't a load bearing area. It doesn't matter that much unless you are riding the high tech scooter. Even with the scotter, I don't think it pull out a lot of loading on the crotch strap becuase you are in the neutral buoyancy.

YMWV, even 2 inch Halcyon crotch strap (soft material) became 1 inch after using the couple of times in my case (again, butt cleavage). However, 2 inch seat belt type strap always shows the same shape.

I have seen some hard core divers using the same 2 inch harness webbing material for the crotch strap. It definately shows the more wearness.

As I recall, the new version of the BP design used to come with 2 inch hole, for example, OMS... But, who cares as long as you are comfortable in underwater?:D

When I used to have 1" webbing I used to use a very strong Tekna, and it wasn't a problem.

Good to hear that...

So, my previous assumption is still valid.

This has been the opposite of my experience! Ouch! Especially when pulling the trigger.

There's lots of variables, I suppose, everyone has different experiences. I definitely "feel" it more in warm water with a thin wet suit, and with a drysuit in cold water, don't feel the crotch strap at all.

All the best, James

I'm changing out my rig now to a bp/w + long hose. I don't know if I'm going totally Hog or what. Basically I'm getting rid of all the bulk and stuff that I dont' need and hate, distributing my weight more and moving to a long hose/bungeed octo cause it just makes a lot of sense to me. Won't go tech for a year or so.

My question is what's up with the crotch strap width? I've seen references where Hog crotch strap is 1" and DIR is 2". Why the difference? Does it really matter? I understand having gear in the same place, config, etc. as your buddies, but crotch strap width? That sounds to me like taking it 1" too far :D

The crotch strap usually has a d-ring or two on it and a 2" d-ring is easier to "hit" than a 1" d-ring. Besides, you can force 2" webbing to fit a 1" slot. Like so ...

Yes......it was a bit uncomfortable on the twig and berries especialy with a thinner wetsuit. 2" is better for me.

Twig and berries...that is funny. Good one. I use a standard hogarthian 2 inch crotch strap for my bp/w diving doubles. I have a 1 inch crotch strap for my Dive Rite Transpac single tank rig. I do not dive anything thinner than a 3 mm wet suit.

Just my O2.

With a Gavin the effect is pronounced. In fact, it takes a little while to get the 2" strap "settled" in a position that doesn't hurt. I can't imagine using a 1" strap with a powerful scooter. The effect is less diving dry, but the 2" strap is still more comfortable.

I don't mean to try to CPR a dead thread, but in the HOG/DIR/GUE universe, would BCD mean Butt Cleavage Damage?
