How about it, ScubaBoard? Does anyone remember their instructor explaining the 'why' of the drills and the mask removal? Was there any sense of "practice, practice, practice" that came out?

I for one insist my students understand they do everything I teach them and like NWGratefuldiver will not accept "because thats how I was taught" as an adequate reply for why do you do it this way?

Good points, Incognegro!

...Does anyone remember their instructor explaining the 'why' of the drills and the mask removal? ...

As a matter of fact yes I do. I do it as well. For the agency I teach through we were taught to do it that way. Maybe that is one reason my class and pool sessions tend to drag on....I prattle on a lot with of why's and anecdotes. An instructor should be able to add value by bringing their own experiences into play. My poor wife is use to me using some of her "escapades" as teaching points.
